Artificial intelligence (AI) is transforming the world in unprecedented ways. These are some of the questions that SOAR STEM Schools, a network of public charter schools in Pakistan, aims to explore and answer with its students. SOAR STEM Schools offer an AI-infused STEM curriculum that not only teaches students the technical skills and knowledge to create and use AI, but also nurtures their critical thinking and ethical awareness about the implications and impacts of AI. By integrating ethical discussions and case studies within STEM learning, SOAR STEM Schools prepare students to become responsible AI leaders who can shape a technological future that is aligned with human values and social good.

One of the ways that SOAR STEM Schools foster ethical AI education is by exposing students to real-world scenarios and dilemmas that involve AI. For example, in a biology class, students may learn about how AI can be used to diagnose diseases, personalize treatments, and discover new drugs. They may also discuss the potential risks and challenges of AI in healthcare, such as data privacy, bias, consent, and accountability. In a math class, students may learn about how AI can be used to optimize systems, solve problems, and generate insights. They may also discuss the ethical implications of AI in decision making, such as fairness, transparency, and explainability.

Another way that SOAR STEM Schools promote ethical AI education is by engaging students in hands-on projects and activities that allow them to apply their STEM and AI skills and knowledge to address real-world issues and challenges. For example, in a social studies class, students may use AI to analyze data and trends related to social justice, human rights, and environmental sustainability. In an art class, students may use AI to enhance their creativity and expression, such as generating music, images, or stories.
